Preparation guide

What To Bring To A Dog Swimming Session

For owners packing for a booked session and wanting nothing forgotten.

Very little is needed. We provide towels, a hair-dryer, buoyancy aids, floats and pool toys, so the list of things you actually have to remember is short.

This checklist covers what to bring, what to leave at home, and the small preparation steps that make the session run smoothly.

Key points

  • Essentials: a lead, and swimwear if you are getting in the pool.
  • We supply towels, buoyancy aids, toys and the hair-dryer.
  • Toilet break before you come in; no big meal beforehand.

The essentials

Keep it simple — this is everything most owners actually need.

  • A lead and collar or harness for getting from the car to the pool room.
  • Swimwear and a towel for yourself if you have booked Owner In Pool.
  • A change of footwear — the floor around a pool gets wet.
  • Any vet paperwork if your dog is swimming post-surgery or with a diagnosed condition.

What we already provide

There is no need to buy kit before a first session. Fitted buoyancy aids in a range of sizes, floats, pool toys, towels for your dog and a hair-dryer are all here.

Before you leave home

A short walk and a toilet break before travelling settles most dogs and avoids accidents in the pool. Avoid a full meal directly before swimming.

If your dog is long-coated, a quick brush-through beforehand makes the towel-down and dry-off far quicker afterwards.

For the journey home

Your dog leaves towel-dried and blow-dried, but a blanket or car mat is still a sensible bit of insurance, especially for thick-coated breeds who hold moisture near the skin.

Have water available in the car. Swimming is thirsty work even though your dog has spent half an hour surrounded by it.

Common questions

Do I need to buy a dog life jacket?

No. We provide fitted buoyancy aids in a range of sizes, so there is nothing to buy before your first session.

Do you provide towels?

Yes — towels for your dog and a hair-dryer are included in every session. Bring your own towel if you are getting in the water.

Can I bring my dog's own toy?

Yes, a favourite floating toy can help a nervous dog relax. We also have pool toys here.

Should my dog be washed before swimming?

No wash needed. A brush-through for long coats just makes drying faster afterwards.
