Dog Swimming for Dogs Learning to Swim
Swimming is a skill, not an instinct, for a large number of dogs. Private 30-minute sessions in a heated indoor pool at Bretherton, Lancashire.
WHAT IT IS
Dogs Learning to Swim (learning to swim) in plain English
Structured one-to-one teaching for dogs who cannot yet swim properly — usually a strong front paddle with the back end sinking, or no idea how to get out.
We are a canine swimming and hydro pool, not a veterinary practice — this page explains how our sessions fit alongside the care your vet provides.
WHY THE POOL HELPS
Why warm water suits this problem
Swimming is a skill, not an instinct, for a large number of dogs. Taught properly in a warm private pool, most learn a level, efficient stroke and — most importantly — how to find the ramp.
RECOMMENDED SESSION
We'd start with the Swim Coach session
Weekly while learning — skills fade over long gaps.
Most dogs level out their body position within two to three lessons; some take longer, and forcing it never speeds it up.

Before you book
Learning to swim in a pool does not make a dog safe in open water. Rivers, canals and the sea carry currents, cold shock and steep banks that no pool session prepares for.
QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED
Dogs Learning to Swim: your questions
Can all dogs learn to swim?
Most can learn a safe, comfortable stroke. A few — very heavy-chested or short-legged dogs — will always need a buoyancy aid, and that is fine.
How much is a coached lesson?
£40 for a 30-minute Swim Coach session with a trained team member in the water throughout.
Will this make my dog safe at the beach?
It makes them a better swimmer. It does not make open water safe — always supervise around rivers and the sea.
