Dog Swimming for Shoulder & Soft-Tissue Injury

Soft-tissue injuries need controlled movement to heal well, and the hardest thing on land is stopping a keen dog doing too much. Private 30-minute sessions in a heated indoor pool at Bretherton, Lancashire.

WHAT IT IS

Shoulder & Soft-Tissue Injury in plain English

Strains of the shoulder, biceps tendon or supporting soft tissue — common in active dogs, agility dogs and enthusiastic ball chasers.

We are a canine swimming and hydro pool, not a veterinary practice — this page explains how our sessions fit alongside the care your vet provides.

WHY THE POOL HELPS

Why warm water suits this problem

Soft-tissue injuries need controlled movement to heal well, and the hardest thing on land is stopping a keen dog doing too much. In the pool the range and effort are set by us, not by the dog.

RECOMMENDED SESSION

We'd start with the Swim Coach session

Weekly during recovery, guided by your vet's restrictions.

Stroke symmetry is the most useful thing we can report back to you and your vet.

Before you book

A limp that has not been diagnosed needs a vet first. Soft-tissue injuries also need genuine rest early on — swimming is for the controlled-return phase, not day one.

For shoulder & soft-tissue injury we need written clearance from your vet or surgeon before the first session.

QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED

Shoulder & Soft-Tissue Injury: your questions

Is swimming good for a shoulder strain?

In the controlled-return phase, usually yes, because the joint moves through range without impact. Early on, rest is what heals soft tissue.

My dog is an agility competitor — can this replace training?

It complements it. Swimming maintains fitness while you rest the injury, and cross-trains muscle groups jumping does not.
