Post-Op Rehab Pool for Long Preston Dogs
Post-op rehab is where careful timing matters most. We follow your Long Preston vet's discharge notes to the letter and build intensity only when the recovery timeline allows it.
Located at Pompian Brow Farm in Bretherton — just 29.8 miles (35 min drive) from Long Preston.
RECOGNISE THE SIGNS?
Why Long Preston Walks Alone Aren't Enough Anymore
Muscle Loss During Rest
Dogs lose muscle mass shockingly fast during cage rest. Swimming starts rebuilding strength as soon as your vet gives clearance.
Cage Rest Frustration
Dogs on cage rest become frustrated, anxious, and depressed. Swimming sessions give them controlled activity and mental stimulation during recovery.
Risk of Re-Injury
Returning to normal exercise too soon risks re-injury. Swimming provides intense rehabilitation in a completely controlled, zero-impact environment.
Expensive vet bills and medication only manage symptoms. Swimming addresses the root cause.

WHY CHOOSE US
Communicating With Your Long Preston Vet During Recovery
We write brief session notes — duration, gait observations, any concerns — and send them on if your vet wants them. Many practices in Long Preston and across North Yorkshire use our updates to plan post-op check-ins and decide when to clear normal exercise.
If at any point your dog presents in a way we don't expect, we'll stop the session and ask you to check in with your vet before booking the next one. That communication discipline is part of why vets keep referring.
Expert Supervision
Swim Coach sessions put a trained team member in the water with your dog, guiding every movement for maximum therapeutic benefit.
Progress Monitoring
We track your dog's recovery at each session — range of motion, endurance, muscle development — and share updates with your vet.
Muscle Preservation
Dogs lose muscle mass shockingly fast during cage rest. Swimming starts rebuilding strength as soon as your vet gives clearance.

WHY DOG OWNERS VISIT US
What Long Preston Dog Owners Come to Us For
Soft Tissue Injury Recovery
Tendon, ligament, and muscle injuries heal better with controlled exercise. Water provides resistance without the impact of land work.
Cruciate Ligament Recovery (TPLO/TTA)
Post-cruciate surgery, swimming rebuilds quadriceps and hamstrings safely while protecting the repair. The most common rehab case we see.
Vet-Coordinated Recovery Programmes
We work alongside your North Yorkshire vet's recovery plan, providing progress updates and adjusting sessions to match the surgical timeline.
Fracture Recovery
Once fixation has healed, swimming rebuilds the muscle wasted during immobilisation — much faster than walking allows.
Amputation Adaptation
Three-legged dogs need to build compensatory muscle quickly. Swimming develops core, shoulders, and remaining limbs in a balanced way.
Tailored Rehabilitation for Long Preston Dogs
Every recovery is different. We adjust session length, intensity, and supervision based on your dog's surgery, healing stage, and confidence. From cruciate repairs to spinal procedures — we've helped dogs from across North Yorkshire return to full function.

GOOD TO KNOW
What to Know Before Your First Visit From Long Preston
"My dog's condition is severe — can you still help?"
We've helped dogs with severe arthritis, major surgery recovery, spinal conditions, and significant mobility limitations. The beauty of water is that even severely affected dogs can often move freely in our pool.
"Is swimming tiring for dogs?"
Very! 30 minutes of swimming is equivalent to about 90 minutes of walking in terms of energy expenditure. Most dogs sleep soundly on the drive home to Long Preston and are calm all evening.
"Is it worth the drive from Long Preston?"
At just 35 minutes, most Long Preston dog owners tell us the drive flies by. Free parking on site, and your dog gets a full 30-minute session in facilities you simply won't find closer.
"Can my dog swim if they're on medication?"
Usually yes — but always mention any medication when booking. Some medications may need timing adjustments around swimming. We'll check with you and advise accordingly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything You Need to Know
Will someone supervise my dog during rehab swimming?
For rehabilitation, we strongly recommend our Swim Coach option (£40) — a trained team member is in the water throughout, guiding your dog's movements for maximum therapeutic benefit.
Do I need to attend every rehab session?
You're welcome to watch poolside at every session. For Swim Coach sessions, our team handles everything in the water — you can relax knowing your dog is in expert hands.
Can swimming help after amputation?
Yes — swimming is excellent for amputee dogs. It helps them build compensatory muscle, improve balance and coordination, and maintain cardiovascular fitness without overloading remaining limbs.
How soon after surgery can my dog start?
Usually 10–14 days after suture removal with vet clearance. We've worked with Long Preston dogs from cruciate, hip, spinal, and orthopaedic recoveries.
My dog had spinal surgery — is swimming safe?
Swimming is excellent for post-spinal surgery rehabilitation. The buoyancy supports the spine while allowing gentle, controlled movement that helps maintain nerve pathways and rebuild core strength.
What if my dog is still in pain after surgery?
Warm water (28–32°C) actually helps manage post-surgical pain by increasing blood flow, reducing muscle tension, and providing gentle movement. Many dogs are visibly more comfortable after swimming.
How does swimming prevent re-injury during recovery?
Water provides a completely controlled environment — no sudden movements, no jumping, no uneven terrain. Your dog gets intense exercise while the water protects healing tissues.
