Dog Recovery Pool Near Stubbins
Many Stubbins vets have used our pool for years specifically because the post-op dogs come back with more muscle, better range of motion, and fewer setbacks.
Located at Pompian Brow Farm in Bretherton — just 20.3 miles (30 min drive) from Stubbins.
COMMON CONCERNS
The Issues Stubbins Dog Owners Talk to Us About
Lost Cardiovascular Fitness
Weeks of rest decondition the heart and lungs. Swimming rebuilds cardiovascular fitness safely alongside muscular rehabilitation.
Slow Recovery
If your dog's recovery from surgery isn't progressing as fast as expected, swimming can accelerate muscle rebuilding and restore range of motion.
Muscle Loss During Rest
Dogs lose muscle mass shockingly fast during cage rest. Swimming starts rebuilding strength as soon as your vet gives clearance.
Expensive vet bills and medication only manage symptoms. Swimming addresses the root cause.

WHY CHOOSE US
The First Three Weeks Set the Tone
Early-stage rehab is where the biggest mistakes happen — too much, too soon, and the surgical repair pays for it. We deliberately under-do the first one or two sessions, especially for cruciate and spinal cases coming in from Stubbins.
From session three onward, intensity builds based on response, not a fixed schedule. Some Stubbins dogs progress fast; others need an extra week at each stage. Both paths reach the same place — we just won't rush the journey.
Pain-Free Rehabilitation
Warm water (28–32°C) provides natural pain relief during exercise, making rehabilitation sessions comfortable rather than stressful.
Accelerated Recovery
Swimming rebuilds muscle mass faster than any land-based exercise, getting your dog back to normal function sooner.
Suitable for All Surgeries
Cruciate repair, hip replacement, spinal surgery, fracture repair, amputation — our pool supports recovery from all common procedures.

WHY DOG OWNERS VISIT US
What Stubbins Dog Owners Come to Us For
Cruciate Ligament Recovery (TPLO/TTA)
Post-cruciate surgery, swimming rebuilds quadriceps and hamstrings safely while protecting the repair. The most common rehab case we see.
Soft Tissue Injury Recovery
Tendon, ligament, and muscle injuries heal better with controlled exercise. Water provides resistance without the impact of land work.
Preventing Re-Injury
Returning to full land exercise too quickly is a leading cause of re-injury. Swimming bridges the gap with intensity but no impact.
Vet-Coordinated Recovery Programmes
We work alongside your Lancashire vet's recovery plan, providing progress updates and adjusting sessions to match the surgical timeline.
Fracture Recovery
Once fixation has healed, swimming rebuilds the muscle wasted during immobilisation — much faster than walking allows.
The Closest Post-Surgery Swimming Pool to Stubbins
Long car journeys are tough on dogs recovering from surgery. At 30 minutes from Stubbins, our pool keeps travel short — and free parking by the door means minimal walking before they're safely supported by the water.
WHO SWIMS WITH US
Dog Owners From Stubbins Who Visit Our Pool
Post-Cruciate Surgery Owners
TPLO, TTA, and lateral suture recoveries are our most common rehab cases. Vets across Lancashire refer here specifically.
Fracture Recovery Cases
Once fixation has healed, swimming rebuilds wasted muscle far faster than walking — without loading the repair site.
Soft Tissue Injury Owners
Tendon and ligament injuries heal better with controlled swimming than with rest alone.
Amputation Adaptation
Three-legged dogs build compensatory muscle quickly in the pool — and stay balanced as they adapt to a new normal.

Concerns? Let Us Put Your Mind at Rest
"How much does it cost?"
Sessions start from just £35 for Owner In Pool and Group Classes, and £40 for Swim Coach and Weighty Woofers. Compare that to a vet hydrotherapy session at £50–80+ and you're getting outstanding value.
"How do I know which session type is right?"
Owner In Pool if you want to swim with your dog. Group Classes for social, confident dogs. Swim Coach for nervous dogs, rehabilitation, or therapeutic sessions. Weighty Woofers for weight management. We're happy to recommend — just ask.
"What happens if my dog has an accident in the pool?"
It happens and it's not a problem! Our filtration system handles it quickly and we're well prepared. We ask that dogs are walked before sessions and we recommend not feeding them within 2 hours of swimming.
"Do you offer discounts for regular swimmers from Stubbins?"
Yes — we offer multi-session packages at a discount for regular swimmers. Ask about our package deals when you book. Many Stubbins dog owners find monthly packages the best value.

"The water is so clean and warm — nothing like the filthy puddles and ponds our dog usually finds! He loves it and comes home smelling fresh instead of swampy."
Sophie W.
Springer Spaniel, 6 years
"Started bringing our overweight bulldog here and she's lost 3kg in 8 weeks! She actually enjoys exercise now. The Weighty Woofers programme is brilliant."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Got Questions? We've Got Answers
What surgeries benefit from swimming rehabilitation?
Cruciate ligament repair (TPLO/TTA), hip replacement, femoral head excision, spinal surgery (IVDD), fracture repair, limb amputation, and patella luxation surgery all benefit enormously from aquatic rehabilitation.
My dog's recovery has stalled — can swimming help?
Stalled recovery is one of the most common reasons vets refer dogs to us. Swimming breaks through recovery plateaus by providing exercise that's impossible on land for a recovering dog.
My dog had a fracture repaired — when can they swim?
Typically 2–4 weeks after external fixator/cast removal, once your vet confirms healing is sufficient. Swimming then helps restore range of motion and rebuild the muscle lost during immobilisation.
How does swimming prevent re-injury during recovery?
Water provides a completely controlled environment — no sudden movements, no jumping, no uneven terrain. Your dog gets intense exercise while the water protects healing tissues.
Can swimming help after amputation?
Yes — swimming is excellent for amputee dogs. It helps them build compensatory muscle, improve balance and coordination, and maintain cardiovascular fitness without overloading remaining limbs.
Is post-surgery swimming covered by pet insurance?
Many pet insurance policies cover hydrotherapy when referred by a vet. Contact your insurer with details — we can provide session records and progress notes to support claims.
What if my dog is in too much pain to swim?
We assess on arrival. If swimming would push them, we use the ramp and shallow walking instead. Nothing is forced for any rehab dog from Stubbins.
