COMMON CONCERNS
Why Goodshaw Dog Owners Are Choosing Swimming
Exercise Makes Things Worse
Overweight dogs who walk too much damage their joints. It's a cruel catch-22 — they need exercise but can't exercise safely on land. Swimming solves this.
Low Energy & Lethargy
Overweight dogs in Goodshaw often seem lazy, but they're actually in pain. Once they start swimming and losing weight, their energy returns dramatically.
Vet's Weight Warning
If your vet in Goodshaw has mentioned your dog's weight, our Weighty Woofers programme is the most effective and enjoyable solution available.
Expensive vet bills and medication only manage symptoms. Swimming addresses the root cause.

THE DIFFERENCE
Real Results From Our Weighty Woofers Programme
We've watched dogs from Goodshaw go from struggling to walk a single mile to swimming confident 30-minute sessions, dropping weight steadily, and rediscovering the energy they had as younger dogs. The transformations aren't dramatic overnight — they're consistent, week-by-week, and they last.
Every Weighty Woofers session includes a free weigh-in so you can see hard numbers, not just hopeful guesses. We chart progress, celebrate milestones, and adjust intensity as fitness improves. Owners stay motivated because the evidence is right there on the scale.
Tailored Intensity
We adjust each session to your dog's current fitness level and gradually increase intensity as they get fitter and lighter.
5x Calorie Burn
Swimming burns approximately 5 times more calories than walking — the most efficient exercise for canine weight loss.
Builds Lean Muscle
Swimming doesn't just burn fat — it builds lean muscle mass simultaneously, improving your dog's metabolism and body composition.
Don't Let Goodshaw's Weather Stop Your Dog's Exercise
Our heated indoor pool means rain, cold, or heat never cancels your dog's workout. Open 7 days, from £35.

WHY DOG OWNERS VISIT US
What Goodshaw Dog Owners Come to Us For
Progress You Can Measure
Free weigh-ins at every Weighty Woofers session mean real numbers, real progress, and real motivation.
Breed-Specific Weight Management
Labs, Beagles, and Spaniels are genetically predisposed to weight gain. Swimming keeps them in shape without joint strain.
Combined Weight & Joint Care
Overweight dogs often develop joint problems. Swimming addresses both simultaneously — losing weight while protecting joints.
Joint-Safe Calorie Burning
Every extra kilo puts 4x more force on joints when walking. Swimming removes this impact while burning 5x the calories.
Metabolic Boost
Swimming builds lean muscle mass, which increases your dog's metabolism. They burn more calories even at rest.
Why Lancashire Vets Recommend Our Pool for Weight Loss
Vets across Lancashire recommend swimming as the gold standard exercise for overweight dogs. No joint impact, maximum calorie burn, and dogs genuinely enjoy it. Our Weighty Woofers programme adds free weigh-ins and progress tracking.

Breed-Prone Weight Owners

YOUR QUESTIONS
What to Know Before Your First Visit From Goodshaw
"What ages of dog do you accept?"
From 12-week-old puppies (after second vaccination) to senior dogs of any age. We adjust every session to your dog's ability. Some of our most enthusiastic swimmers are well into their teens!
"What do I need to bring?"
Just your dog and a towel. If you're doing Owner In Pool, bring swimwear too. We provide life jackets, toys, and everything else needed. Free parking means you don't even need change for a meter.
"Can my dog swim if they're on medication?"
Usually yes — but always mention any medication when booking. Some medications may need timing adjustments around swimming. We'll check with you and advise accordingly.
"Is the water clean and safe?"
Our water is continuously filtered and treated to exceed hygiene standards. It's crystal-clear at all times — far cleaner and safer than any river, lake, or outdoor dog pool you'll find near Goodshaw.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything You Need to Know
How quickly will I see my dog lose weight?
Most owners notice improved energy and stamina within 2 weeks. Visible weight loss typically becomes apparent at 3–4 weeks with regular sessions and dietary adjustments.
Is the Weighty Woofers programme supervised?
You can choose Owner In Pool (you swim with your dog) or Swim Coach (our team member guides your dog). For weight loss, Swim Coach is recommended as we can control exercise intensity more precisely.
Do I have to be in the pool with my overweight dog?
Not at all. Our Swim Coach session puts one of our team in the water so you can watch from poolside — ideal if you'd rather not get changed every visit from Goodshaw.
Can my dog still enjoy swimming even though it's for weight loss?
Dogs love our pool! Weighty Woofers sessions are fun — your dog won't know they're exercising for health reasons. They'll just know they had a brilliant time in warm water.
My dog is too heavy to exercise on land — what can I do?
This is exactly what our pool is for. Water supports 90% of your dog's body weight, making movement comfortable and easy. Dogs who can't walk 10 minutes on land can often swim happily for 30 minutes.
Will my overweight dog be able to swim?
Yes! Overweight dogs often take to swimming brilliantly because the water supports their weight and makes movement easy and enjoyable. Many dogs who can barely walk a mile can swim happily for 30 minutes.
My vet says my dog needs to lose weight — can you help?
Absolutely. Our Weighty Woofers programme is designed for exactly this. Many vets across Lancashire recommend us as the exercise component of their weight management plans.
