Problems Swimming Solves for Heskin Dogs
Can't Walk Far Anymore
Dogs in Heskin who can't manage long walks can still exercise fully in our pool. Water supports 90% of their body weight.
Chronic Pain After Injury
Old injuries that never fully healed can cause ongoing pain. Hydrotherapy builds compensatory muscle and improves circulation to damaged tissues.
Nerve Function Declining
Dogs with neurological conditions like degenerative myelopathy need controlled exercise to maintain nerve pathways. Swimming provides this safely.
Expensive vet bills and medication only manage symptoms. Swimming addresses the root cause.

OUR POOL
Working Alongside Your Heskin Vet
When you book a hydrotherapy session, we ask for the briefest possible vet note — diagnosis, restrictions, and any post-operative timelines. We then design sessions that complement, never contradict, your vet's plan.
We're happy to send progress updates back to your practice in Heskin or anywhere in Lancashire. Many Lancashire vets use those notes to inform medication reviews and next-stage rehabilitation decisions.
Improved Range of Motion
Warm water allows joints to move through their full range more easily than on land, restoring flexibility lost to injury or disease.
Natural Pain Management
Warm water swimming can reduce reliance on pain medication by addressing the root causes — weak muscles and stiff joints.
One-to-One Supervision
Our Swim Coach sessions provide dedicated in-water guidance, ensuring every movement benefits your dog's specific condition.

WHY DOG OWNERS VISIT US
What Heskin Dog Owners Come to Us For
Senior Dog Comfort
Age-related stiffness and muscle loss respond remarkably well to warm-water swimming. Many senior dogs act years younger.
Cruciate Ligament Recovery
After TPLO or TTA surgery, swimming rebuilds muscle mass faster than any other exercise — with zero joint loading.
Mobility Improvement
Dogs who struggle to walk on land often move freely in water. Regular sessions maintain and improve what they gain.
Weight-Related Joint Relief
Overweight dogs with joint problems get a double benefit — weight loss exercise that simultaneously relieves joint strain.
Spinal Condition Management
IVDD and other spinal conditions respond well to hydrotherapy. Buoyancy supports the spine while allowing controlled movement.
Why Hydrotherapy Matters for Heskin Dogs
Joint conditions, post-surgery recovery, and chronic pain don't pause for Lancashire weather. Our heated indoor pool provides therapeutic swimming year-round — consistent water temperature, controlled environment, and professional supervision just 10 minutes from Heskin.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
Before You Visit — Your Questions Answered
"What happens if my dog has an accident in the pool?"
It happens and it's not a problem! Our filtration system handles it quickly and we're well prepared. We ask that dogs are walked before sessions and we recommend not feeding them within 2 hours of swimming.
"Will hydrotherapy interfere with my dog's medication?"
Hydrotherapy complements medication — it doesn't interfere with it. Many dogs see medication reductions after regular swimming because the root causes (weak muscles, stiff joints) are being addressed.
"What do I need to bring?"
Just your dog and a towel. If you're doing Owner In Pool, bring swimwear too. We provide life jackets, toys, and everything else needed. Free parking means you don't even need change for a meter.
"Is swimming tiring for dogs?"
Very! 30 minutes of swimming is equivalent to about 90 minutes of walking in terms of energy expenditure. Most dogs sleep soundly on the drive home to Heskin and are calm all evening.
How Hydrotherapy Works
Water provides 15 times more resistance than air, so your dog gets an intense workout in a short session. The buoyancy of water supports up to 90% of your dog's body weight, dramatically reducing stress on damaged joints. Meanwhile, the warm temperature (28–32°C) increases circulation, reduces pain, and promotes healing.
WHAT DOG OWNERS SAY
Hear From Happy Lancashire Dogs & Owners
"Brilliant for our working cocker who does agility. The swimming keeps her fit, builds strength in muscle groups that agility alone doesn't work, and she adores it."
James H.
Working Cocker Spaniel, 4 years
"My elderly staffy had almost given up on walks. After a month of weekly swims she's climbing the stairs again and playing in the garden. I cried the first time I saw it."
Tracey G.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier, 12 years
"We live near Heskin and this has become our weekly treat. The staff remember our dog's name, know her quirks, and always make her feel special. That personal touch matters."
Helen & Rob F.
Whippet, 4 years
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your Heskin Swimming Questions, Answered
Is hydrotherapy safe for older dogs in Heskin?
Absolutely! Older dogs often benefit the most. The warm water (28–32°C) eases stiff joints and the buoyancy means they can exercise without pain. We adjust every session to your dog's ability.
Do you communicate progress back to my Heskin vet?
If your vet wants written updates we'll send them. Many Lancashire practices appreciate a short note after each block of sessions to feed into the dog's care plan.
How does hydrotherapy help after cruciate surgery?
After TPLO or TTA surgery, swimming rebuilds quadriceps and hamstring muscle mass without loading the healing joint. Water resistance provides controlled strengthening while buoyancy protects the surgical repair.
What temperature is your hydrotherapy pool?
28–32°C — specifically maintained for therapeutic benefit. This temperature increases circulation, reduces muscle tension, and relieves joint pain while being comfortable for extended sessions.
How many hydrotherapy sessions will my dog need?
For post-surgery rehab, we typically recommend 1–2 sessions per week for 6–12 weeks. For chronic conditions like arthritis, regular weekly sessions provide the best ongoing results.
Can dogs with spinal conditions use hydrotherapy?
Yes — dogs with IVDD, degenerative myelopathy, and other spinal conditions often respond very well to hydrotherapy. The buoyancy supports the spine while allowing gentle, controlled movement.
Can my dog do hydrotherapy alongside other treatment?
Yes — water work complements medication, physio, and acupuncture rather than replacing them. We'll plan around whatever your Heskin vet has prescribed.
