IS YOUR DOG STRUGGLING?
What's Holding Your Tarbock Dog Back?
Weight Gain From Reduced Exercise
Dogs who can't exercise on land due to pain often gain weight, worsening their condition. Swimming breaks this destructive cycle.
Nerve Function Declining
Dogs with neurological conditions like degenerative myelopathy need controlled exercise to maintain nerve pathways. Swimming provides this safely.
Quality of Life Declining
Watching your dog slow down is heartbreaking. Warm-water therapy can turn back the clock, giving them renewed energy and mobility.
Expensive vet bills and medication only manage symptoms. Swimming addresses the root cause.

WHY CHOOSE US
What Is Dog Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy uses the natural properties of water — buoyancy, resistance, and warmth — to provide therapeutic exercise for dogs. In our heated pool, your dog can move freely without the weight-bearing stress that land exercise creates.
Our hydrotherapy sessions regularly help dogs with arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, cruciate ligament injuries, IVDD, degenerative myelopathy, post-surgical recovery, and age-related stiffness. Every session is tailored to your dog's specific needs.
Vet-Recommended Facility
Veterinary practices across the region refer patients to our pool for rehabilitation, joint care, and chronic condition management.
90% Weight Reduction
Water buoyancy supports up to 90% of your dog's body weight, allowing pain-free movement impossible on land.
Improved Range of Motion
Warm water allows joints to move through their full range more easily than on land, restoring flexibility lost to injury or disease.
The Best Dog Exercise Is Just 30 Minutes Away
Our heated indoor pool in Bretherton serves dog owners from Tarbock and across Merseyside. Book your session today.

What Tarbock Dog Owners Come to Us For
Senior Dog Comfort

Overweight dogs with joint problems get a double benefit — weight loss exercise that simultaneously relieves joint strain.
Reducing Pain Medication
Many owners find regular swimming allows their vet to reduce pain medication dosages — addressing root causes, not just symptoms.

GOOD TO KNOW
Everything Tarbock Dog Owners Ask Us
"Do I need to book in advance?"
We recommend booking ahead as sessions fill up, especially evenings and weekends. Call 07359 881320, fill in our form, or email us. We try to accommodate short-notice bookings when possible.
"How much does it cost?"
Sessions start from just £35 for Owner In Pool and Group Classes, and £40 for Swim Coach and Weighty Woofers. Compare that to a vet hydrotherapy session at £50–80+ and you're getting outstanding value.
"How do I know which session type is right?"
Owner In Pool if you want to swim with your dog. Group Classes for social, confident dogs. Swim Coach for nervous dogs, rehabilitation, or therapeutic sessions. Weighty Woofers for weight management. We're happy to recommend — just ask.
"What if my dog can't swim at all?"
Many dogs who visit us have never swum before — that's perfectly fine. We use life jackets, gradual ramp entry, and gentle encouragement. Swimming is a natural instinct for most dogs; they just need the right introduction.
How Hydrotherapy Works
Water provides 15 times more resistance than air, so your dog gets an intense workout in a short session. The buoyancy of water supports up to 90% of your dog's body weight, dramatically reducing stress on damaged joints. Meanwhile, the warm temperature (28–32°C) increases circulation, reduces pain, and promotes healing.
WHAT DOG OWNERS SAY
What Merseyside Dog Owners Tell Us
"Our vet recommended hydrotherapy after hip surgery. The difference after 6 weeks of swimming was incredible — muscle mass back, no more limping. Worth the drive from Tarbock."
Steve M.
German Shepherd, 7 years
"My elderly staffy had almost given up on walks. After a month of weekly swims she's climbing the stairs again and playing in the garden. I cried the first time I saw it."
Tracey G.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier, 12 years
"Our Weimaraner has more energy than we can handle with walks alone. Swimming has been transformational — she's calmer at home and actually settles in the evenings now."
Tom & Kelly J.
Weimaraner, 2 years
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Got Questions? We've Got Answers
My dog can barely walk — can they still swim?
Often yes. Dogs who struggle to walk on land frequently move freely in water because buoyancy eliminates 90% of their body weight. We've helped many dogs from Tarbock who were barely mobile on land.
How many hydrotherapy sessions before I see a change?
Most Tarbock owners report a difference in how their dog moves around the house within 3–4 sessions. Bigger structural change builds over 6–10 sessions.
Can my dog do hydrotherapy alongside other treatment?
Yes — water work complements medication, physio, and acupuncture rather than replacing them. We'll plan around whatever your Tarbock vet has prescribed.
How soon after surgery can my dog start hydrotherapy?
Most vets recommend starting 10–14 days after suture removal, once wounds are fully healed. We always require vet clearance before starting post-surgical hydrotherapy.
Is hydrotherapy painful for dogs with arthritis?
The opposite. Warm water at 28–32°C eases stiff joints; buoyancy removes the impact that hurts on land. Most arthritic dogs from Tarbock relax visibly once in the pool.
What should I tell my vet about your hydrotherapy?
Let them know we have a purpose-built heated indoor pool at 28–32°C with ramp entry. We offer Swim Coach sessions with trained supervision. We're happy to receive referral notes and provide progress updates.
Will someone be in the pool with my dog?
For hydrotherapy sessions, we recommend our Swim Coach option (£40) where a trained team member is in the water throughout, guiding your dog's movements for maximum therapeutic benefit.
