COMMON CONCERNS
Why Lancaster Dog Owners Are Choosing Swimming
Weight Creeping Up
Over half of UK dogs are overweight. If your dog's waistline has disappeared, swimming burns 5x more calories than walking — with zero joint impact.
Nowhere Safe to Swim
Rivers and lakes near Lancaster can be dangerous — strong currents, blue-green algae, hidden debris. Your dog deserves a safe, controlled environment.
Hot Weather Exercise Limits
Summer heat makes exercising dogs from Lancaster risky. Our temperature-controlled indoor pool is safe and comfortable in any weather.
Sound familiar? Swimming solves all of these — safely and enjoyably.

WHY CHOOSE US
Why Lancaster Owners Drive Past Other Pools to Reach Us
There are larger pools elsewhere in Lancashire, and some that are closer to certain parts of Lancaster. What brings owners to Bretherton is the combination — purpose-built for dogs, properly heated, genuinely private, and run by people who know each regular's dog by name.
Once you've experienced a fully private, fully focused 30-minute session, shared or rushed alternatives feel like a step backwards. That's the most common piece of feedback we get from Lancaster dog owners who tried elsewhere first.
Year-Round Availability
Rain, snow, or heatwave — our indoor heated pool means your dog's exercise never depends on the weather.

Swimming engages every major muscle group simultaneously. 30 minutes in the pool equals 90 minutes of walking.
Heated to 28–32°C
Our pool maintains a therapeutic temperature all year round — warm, clean, and comfortable for every breed and age.

YOUR QUESTIONS
What to Know Before Your First Visit From Lancaster
"What if my dog can't swim at all?"
Many dogs who visit us have never swum before — that's perfectly fine. We use life jackets, gradual ramp entry, and gentle encouragement. Swimming is a natural instinct for most dogs; they just need the right introduction.
"Is the water clean and safe?"
Our water is continuously filtered and treated to exceed hygiene standards. It's crystal-clear at all times — far cleaner and safer than any river, lake, or outdoor dog pool you'll find near Lancaster.
"What ages of dog do you accept?"
From 12-week-old puppies (after second vaccination) to senior dogs of any age. We adjust every session to your dog's ability. Some of our most enthusiastic swimmers are well into their teens!
"What if my dog doesn't like it?"
In our experience, the vast majority of dogs take to our warm pool quickly. We never force dogs into the water — they enter at their own pace via a gentle ramp. The warm temperature makes it inviting rather than intimidating.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Lancaster Dog Swimming — Your Questions Answered
Is the pool hygienic?
Our pool water is continuously filtered and treated to the highest standards. We maintain strict hygiene protocols and the water is crystal-clear at all times. It's far cleaner than any river, lake, or outdoor pool.
Do you offer group sessions for dogs from Lancaster?
Yes! Our Group Classes at £35 per session are great for socialised dogs. You can bring up to 4 dogs in an Owner In Pool session too — perfect for multi-dog households in Lancaster.
Are there any dogs you can't accept?
We welcome all breeds and ages from 12 weeks. Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations. Dogs with open wounds, infectious conditions, or severe uncontrolled aggression may need to wait or have a vet consultation first.
Can my dog swim if they've been neutered recently?
We recommend waiting at least 14 days after suture removal and getting the all-clear from your vet before swimming. The wound must be fully healed before entering the pool.
Are there any health conditions that prevent swimming?
Dogs with open wounds, active skin infections, untreated ear infections, or uncontrolled seizures should not swim until cleared by a vet. We're happy to advise if you're unsure about your dog's suitability.
What should I bring for my dog's first swim?
Just your dog and a towel — we supply everything else including life jackets and toys. If you're joining in an Owner In Pool session, bring swimwear too. We have a drying area on site.
What's the difference between Swim Coach and Owner In Pool?
In Owner In Pool sessions, you get in the water with your dog. In Swim Coach sessions, one of our trained team members is in the pool guiding your dog — ideal for rehabilitation, nervous dogs, or when you'd rather watch from poolside.
