When Is It Too Early — or Too Late — to Start?
We take puppies from 12 weeks, once the second vaccination course is complete. Before that, the immune system isn't ready for any shared-water environment, no matter how clean. We won't bend that rule for anyone in Mere or beyond — it's there for the puppy.
There's no firm 'too late' — older puppies and even adult dogs can absolutely learn to swim. But the easiest window closes around 6 months. Mere owners who start in the 12-to-26-week range almost always end up with the most confident water-loving dogs.

Do you provide life jackets for puppies?
Yes — we have life jackets in all sizes, including extra-small for toy breeds. We'll fit one on your puppy if needed to provide extra buoyancy and confidence.
What vaccinations does my puppy need before swimming?
Your puppy must have completed their second vaccination (typically at 10-12 weeks). We require this for all puppies to ensure their safety and the safety of other dogs using our pool.
My puppy is fully vaccinated — when can we start?
From 12 weeks, 2 weeks after the final vaccination. Most Mere puppies start between 14 and 20 weeks while the socialisation window is still wide open.
Will my puppy be safe with a life jacket?
Yes — we size the jacket to your puppy and someone is in the water the whole time. No puppy from Mere has ever been left to fend for themselves in the pool.
Can swimming help my puppy sleep through the night?
Almost always. A well-stimulated puppy from Mere who's had a controlled swim usually sleeps deeply that night — many owners book Friday or Saturday slots specifically for this.
Can puppy swimming help with socialisation?
