RECOGNISE THE SIGNS?
Why Walks Alone Aren't Enough for Fence Dogs
Too Much Energy
Puppy zoomies driving you mad? Swimming channels all that energy into controlled exercise — they'll sleep like a log afterwards.
Growing Pains
Large breed puppies from Fence are prone to joint issues. Swimming builds muscle without stressing developing bones and joints.
Exercise Limitations for Young Dogs
Vets recommend limiting walk lengths for puppies to protect developing joints. Swimming provides intensive exercise without the impact restrictions.
Expensive vet bills and medication only manage symptoms. Swimming addresses the root cause.

What a First Puppy Swim Looks Like at Our Fence Pool
We never throw puppies in. Every first session begins with a poolside meet-and-greet, then a slow walk down the gentle ramp at your puppy's pace. Some swim in minutes; others paddle their first inch and we celebrate that just as loudly. Both are wins.
Our team has handled hundreds of first swims for puppies from Fence and across Lancashire. We know how to read body language, when to encourage, and when to let a puppy take their time. The goal is always confidence, never a forced milestone.
Socialisation Opportunity
The pool environment exposes puppies to new sensations in a controlled setting, building overall confidence.
Coordination Development
Swimming develops proprioception and body awareness in puppies, helping them become more coordinated on land too.

GOOD TO KNOW
Questions Fence Dog Owners Ask
"Can I bring more than one dog from Fence?"
Yes! Our Owner In Pool sessions welcome up to 4 dogs. Multi-dog households from Fence love bringing all their dogs for a group swim. Same price per session regardless of dog numbers.
"Can my dog swim if they're on medication?"
Usually yes — but always mention any medication when booking. Some medications may need timing adjustments around swimming. We'll check with you and advise accordingly.
"Is swimming tiring for dogs?"
Very! 30 minutes of swimming is equivalent to about 90 minutes of walking in terms of energy expenditure. Most dogs sleep soundly on the drive home to Fence and are calm all evening.
"What if my dog can't swim at all?"
Many dogs who visit us have never swum before — that's perfectly fine. We use life jackets, gradual ramp entry, and gentle encouragement. Swimming is a natural instinct for most dogs; they just need the right introduction.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your Fence Swimming Questions, Answered
What breeds take to swimming best as puppies?
Water breeds like Labradors and Spaniels often take to it naturally, but we've successfully introduced every breed imaginable. Even breeds not known for swimming — Bulldogs, Dachshunds, Greyhounds — can learn to love it with gentle introduction.
How long is a puppy swimming session?
Sessions are 30 minutes. For very young or small puppies, we may keep active swimming time shorter and let them play around the water at their own pace.
My puppy is fully vaccinated — when can we start?
From 12 weeks, 2 weeks after the final vaccination. Most Fence puppies start between 14 and 20 weeks while the socialisation window is still wide open.
Why should I start my puppy swimming early?
Puppies introduced to water between 12 weeks and 6 months develop lifelong water confidence. Early swimming also provides excellent exercise for growing muscles without the joint impact of running.
My puppy has never been in water — is that OK?
That's exactly what we're here for! We introduce puppies to water gradually and gently. Most puppies are paddling confidently by the end of their first session.
Can swimming help my puppy sleep through the night?
Almost always. A well-stimulated puppy from Fence who's had a controlled swim usually sleeps deeply that night — many owners book Friday or Saturday slots specifically for this.
Is your pool safe for small breed puppies from Fence?
Absolutely! We have adjustable pool depths, a gentle ramp entry, and life jackets for tiny breeds. The warm water (28–32°C) prevents cold shock. Every session is completely private.
